The new pollen trap locations were chosen based on a range of factors including levels of ryegrass, expected wind directions and likely distribution patterns of pollen, historical peaks in asthma presentations to emergency departments, population size, and the availability of appropriate locations to house, operate, maintain and staff daily pollen counts seven days a week from 1 October to 31 December.
